From a simple blacksmith shop to a 1.1-million-square-foot manufacturing complex. From two workers to nearly 450 employees. From one product to hundreds of heavy equipment designs. These are some of the important milestones in the remarkable history of the company known as Morbark.
The year was 1957 when Norval Morey, a local sawmill operator, took the first risky step into manufacturing armed with a patent for a portable pulp wood debarker. The Morbark Debarker Company was born that year, and nobody in Winn, Michigan, could have predicted the growth that the company would experience over the next five decades.
Morbark, LLC, based in Winn, Mich., has been innovating and manufacturing durable, high-performance equipment for more than 60 years. Morbark’s family of companies and equipment helps customers to process and convert waste wood and other organic materials into sellable end products. The Company and its affiliate brands, Rayco, DENIS CIMAF, and Boxer Equipment, produce a full line of brush chippers, stump cutters, mini skid steers, forestry mulchers, aerial trimmers, whole tree, and biomass chippers, flails, horizontal and tub grinders, sawmill equipment, material handling systems, and mulcher head attachments for excavators, backhoes, and skid steers. Sales and aftermarket support are conducted through a worldwide, authorized dealer network.
Looking to leverage the company’s ever-expanding capabilities in product development, manufacturing, and dealer distribution, Morbark acquired the Boxer Equipment line of mini-skid steers in December 2012. The line includes a 7-inch capacity brush chipper and the 300, 600 and 700 series of mini-skid steers that are built to handle a full complement of more than 50 universal compact utility attachments. The acquisition not only enhanced opportunities in Morbark’s existing tree service and rental markets, but also allowed Morbark to expand their market presence and current equipment offerings to a broader range of industries and end users, including, but not limited to, landscapers, irrigation and trenching contractors, property owners, and general contractors of all sizes.
On November 2, 2017, Morbark expanded again when it announced it had acquired Rayco Manufacturing, Inc. The purchase of Rayco again broadened the range of tree care and industrial equipment, aftermarket parts, and service available to our Customers. Rayco brought a lineup of innovative equipment into the Morbark family across multiple product categories. In particular, Rayco stump cutters, aerial trimmers, forestry mulchers, and crawler trucks enhance and complement the existing Morbark family of products.
Most recently, Morbark completed the acquisition of DENIS CIMAF, Inc., based in Roxton Falls, Québec. The purchase of DENIS CIMAF is another step in the Company’s strategic focus on broadening the range of equipment offered to their Customers. Founded in 1998, DENIS CIMAF specializes in the development of high-performance brushcutter-mulcher attachments for excavators, skid steers, forestry tractors, graders and other types of heavy equipment. The company manufactures four main lines of products: the DAH series, industrial mulcher attachments for excavators; the DAF series, attachments for skid steers and other dedicated carriers; the DTN series, industrial brushcutters-mowers for roadside maintenance; and the EWF series, dedicated hydraulic power packs.
With more than 60 years of ideas, invention and phenomenal growth, Morbark is recognized as a world-class manufacturing company with worldwide markets, and a reputation for designing and building robust, rugged and reliable heavy equipment.
